Football players charged with betting
Five professional footbal players have been charged with breaking the Football Association's rules on betting.
The investigation pertains to Accrington Stanley's last game of the last League Two season at home to Bury.
Four players then at Accrington - Jay Harris, David Mannix, Robert Williams and Peter Cavanagh - and former Stanley player Andrew Mangan, who was then at Bury, have been charged with betting on a victory for the visitors.
An FA statement said: "All five are alleged to have placed bets on Bury to win this match.
"Mannix is alleged to have placed stakes to the value of approximately £4,000; Mangan £3,500; Harris £2,000; Williams £1,000; and Cavanagh on a £5 accumulator."
Accrington Stanley said in a statement, "Accrington Stanley are aware that two of our players have been charged by the Football Association in connection with betting on football matches.
"They have until later to this month to respond to the charges and we will await until the Football Association reach a final verdict before any action is taken by the club."
