Manchester City Football Club have been keeping tabs on Gregory van der Wiel.

The 21-year-old made himself a first team regular for Ajax under Marco van Basten last season, and he has continued to nail down a place this term under new coach Martin Jol.

Van der Wiel, who has seven caps for Holland, has even chipped in with three league goals from right-back this season, and his agent claims Mark Hughes is watching his form.

“There is no official contact between Ajax and Manchester City,” said Hakin Slimani to Voetbal International. "But I cannot deny that his performance has been closely followed by City.”

The fact that Hughes is said to be interested in van der Wiel only further serves to increase speculation that Micah Richards could be on borrowed time at Eastlands.
