Luis Suarez has signed a new contract with Ajax of Amsterdam.

The Uruguayan international is one of the most lethal strikers in European football at the moment, with a stunning 18 goals in as many games to his name in the Dutch league.

Manchester United were said to have the 22-year-old on their list of targets for the summer, but the player has ended all speculation over his future by signing a new deal which runs until 2013.

"Everyone was speculating about a transfer, but I was negotiating with Ajax about the extension of my contract," said Suarez. "Ajax is a fantastic club and this team can grow further.”
