Arsenal linked with shock £10million Anfield raid
12:00 PM 16 April, 2009
Arsenal Football Club have been linked with a shock bid for Ryan Babel.

Arsene Wenger was keen on the Dutch international whilst he was still at Ajax, but the Gunners boss was beaten to his signature by Liverpool who forked out £10million.

Babel has failed to nail down a regular starting role with the Merseyside club in the two seasons he has been in England, and admits this is leaving him frustrated.

"With this substitutes role, I am not happy," Babel told Sportweek. "I have had three good interviews this season with coach Rafa Benítez.

“He has stated that I needed to improve my defensive game in order to be considered. My feeling is that I'm strong in this area, but still I get no real chance. This unfortunately hurts."

Reports in Holland claim that Wenger is considering renewing his interest in Babel at the end of the season, as he looks to add another quality youngster to his Emirates Stadium ranks.

Fact is babel is a striker and is been played in the wrong position. I would welcome him at Arsenal though 10M is too steep more like half that amount judging on resent performances or there for lack of.

We dont need BABEL, bcoz our attacking are very powerfull now. Unless we sell adebayor or v.persie then only we need to bought striker and i hope when wenger decide to let adebayor or v.persie , he buy benzema or d.villa or eden zenko. right now we need a solid defensive midfielder and a strong defend.

Believe Babel will do well in Arsenal Ladies not with my own Gunners. We dont need all Premiership failures in our team. People want to atach themselves to our success.NO WAY.

Wenger should buy Babel, however 10 million is far too much on current form, more like 6-7 million is a better reflection. Wenger would polish him up well just like what be has done with Henry, Anelka, Adebayor, Pires, Ljungberg, the list is too long but you get my point. Liverpool and Rafa is a victim of his own success, his unwillingness to change his game has lead to Liverpool being very predictable and two dimensional.. And Lucus Should be playing two divisions down, not for Englands most successful club..

Wow why would we want Babel, liverpool would charge us alot for an average player. Leave off Wenger. Someone just mentioned agger, i think that he is a good defender and Liverpool are stupid to play skirtel ahead of him. If Wenger can do a bit of a sol campbell with him once his contract runs out in summer 2010, then we could have a class defence.

Forget Babel, we should bring in Aggar from Liverpool. The guy is a solid CB and can play on the ball like all arsenal CB. He hasnt signrd a new contract yet and liverpool dont always play him because they also have Skirtel, Carreghar and Hypia.

dream on arsenal if you think you're getting agger or alonso. thats like liverpool suggesting 'we should bring in adebayor and fabregas'. don't be so naive... plus to all you malingering lucas hecklers, he was one of the best players on the pitch at chelsea

Arsenal fans are dreamin if they think a 'few extra quid' will be enough to afford Alonso. We wouldn't sell for less than £16m to Juventus after he had a poor season and was unsettled, so after the best season of his career why would he leave Liverpool? (especially after the support he recieved from the fans last pre-season, when he was linked with a move) If Rafa was to sell him (for some crazy reason) He would probably want more than £16m and only if it was a foreign club like Juve, an English top 4 team would have to pay a substantial amount more, or not have any chance at all. Do agree that he would be a massive success though, as he is easily twice as good as the last few players to attempt partnering Cesc, like Flamini and Denilson. In my opinion it would definately be a signing that would walk into the team and have an instant positive effect. Benitez very nearly made a big mistake by selling him last season, but I'm led to believe that this was a personal matter with Xabi, as opposed to his ability. Its a mistake I can't see him making any time soon.

We don't need Babel, Walcot is brilient on the right and our nasri is filling in on the left, Gibbs is doing well but clichy is a blow for the moment. Fabregas and Song are holding in the middlefield but i do think we need a new center back, sell gallas and find someone strong to gel with toure and we have a team.

firstly this article has nothing to do with Alonso, secondly Rafa does not know what he has got in Babel. All you liverpool fans need to stop talking about Babel and start talking Lucus who is absolutely sh*t and yet what does Rafa see in him? He would struggle to get in the Leicester City team and there two divisions lower. He cost you the champions league qualification, and will probably cost you the title too...

We dont need Babel or any new attacking option. Walcott can and has done more for Arsenal in that position than Babel can. Plus we've got Arshavin and Nasri up the flanks so we really dont need Babel. All we need is another solid centre back to back up rather than playing Djorou.

Goodness me, Baker Makindye, either you have been out on the lash of that Local gin(Waragi) or you forgot to take your medicine. Comparing Babel to Titti is nothing short of blasfemy. How dare you.. On the lighter note, Babel could work well with Van Persie although I think Ashavin is a lot better. No need to swap Liverpool bench to Arsenal's. What I prefer is Alonzo to pair with Fabregas which would strengthen the team.

if Wenger did not buy Babel it was for a reason - average player. He is more of a Villa or Spurs level of player, can't see him doing well in any of the top teams. Good diver too.

Rafa Benítez should play ryan babel in the first team because he is a excelant player for us and should not go to arsenal!! and babel will be our next riera crossing the ball in the box torres geting his head to it and we'll score lots more goals if he was in the first team

totally agree with what your saying, however playing Babel instead of Kuyt on the right and Riera on the left, much more balanced. Rafa sometimes does not appreciate Babel and what he is capable of doing if given the opportunity. Against Chelsea at stamford lucus should not have played babel or agger should have played in midfield as the both are far better than liability lucus.
