Nikola Zigic is unaware of speculation claiming Aston Villa Football Club wanted to sign him.

The giant Serbian international completed a £6million move from Valencia to Birmingham City earlier this summer, as Alex McLeish looks to build on last season’s impressive showing.

It has been suggested that Martin O’Neill was hoping to take Zigic to Villa Park before being pipped to the post by the Blues, but the player is unaware of such a theory.

“I am not sure about the Aston Villa interest. Maybe there could have been but I'm certainly not aware of it,” the former La Liga ace told the official club website.

"It may even have come after I had already decided to join Birmingham. Birmingham came in for me and it was something I wanted to do. I wanted to move on to the next level."
