Aston Villa Football Club have a clear run on Ibrahim Afellay.

The Holland international has in the past been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona, but there appears to be little interest in him this summer.

This is somewhat surprising considering the 24-year-old has just twelve months left on his PSV Eindhoven contract, so could be available for a reduced fee.

Reports in Germany claim Hamburg have also cooled their interest in Afellay, leaving Martin O’Neill’s Villa in a good position to sign the £7.5million-rated playmaker.

It is believed the Midlands club see Afellay as a good replacement for James Milner, the England international, who remains a want for Manchester City.

The midfielder, though, is said to still be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium to link up with Robin van Persie, and Arsene Wenger may yet make a move.
