Aston Villa are keen to sign Danny Simpson this month.

Although Paul Lambert has already signed one right fullback this summer, in Sheffield United’s Matthew Lowton, he wants a more experienced option.

Simpson is in the final 12 months of his contract at Newcastle United, and if no new deal is agreed, he will likely be sold before the start of the season.

Reading have also expressed an interest in the 25-year-old, but Lambert will be confident of luring him to Villa Park in a £5million transfer.
