Barnsley are due to talk to Jamaican international Jamal Campbell-Ryce about a new deal.
The 26-year-old is currently away with Jamaica at the CONCACAF Gold Cup but manager Simon Davey is planning to open talks on his return.
The 26-year-old former Rotherham winger agreed a three-year deal at Oakwell in October 2008 but was the target of a £1m bid from Reading in January.
"Because of clauses in his contract we need to sit down with him," manager Simon Davey told BBC Radio Sheffield. "We promised to talk about his contract so that is what we are going to do.
"We have had no contact from any clubs though the close season for Jamal.
"There was all the interest in January, but nothing happened at all in the last month to six weeks."
Barnsley have also emerged as the favourites to land striker Andy Gray from Charlton.
The Scotland international is believed to be looking for a move back to the Championship following Charlton's relegation at the end of last season.
The 31-year-old has also caught the attention of both Crystal Palace and Bristol City.
Meanwhile, Barnsley manager Simon Davey has handed defenders Chris Ramsay and Maxime Chanot, striker Dean Morgan and goalkeeper David Preece a trial spell in an attempt to win a deal with the Tykes.
