With the future of Joe Cole, out of contract in the summer, looking increasingly uncertain, the German international could be seen as an ideal replacement.

The 25-year-old, who already has 73 caps for his country, is under contract at the Allianz Arena until the summer of 2012, and would be available for around £12million.
