Alex McLeish admits Kevin Phillips is playing towards a start for Birmingham City Football Club.

The veteran striker has made just one start in the Premier League this season, and he was again named on the bench for the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

But after coming off the bench to grab both goals in the 2-1 win at St Andrews, McLeish admits Phillips is deserving of a start in the near future.

“I spoke to Kevin after the transfer window closed and said he still had a big part to play,” the Scot told Sky Sports. "By goodness he has given us a fantastic return today

"Kevin will never lose that ability he has got in the box. I still feel he's going to be a big impact player for us, but after today he probably deserves a start.”
