Birmingham City come first for Ferguson
11:16 AM 08 February, 2010
Birmingham City Football Club, and not the Scotland national side, is Barry Ferguson’s priority.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been banished from international action since George Burley scrapped him following the ‘booze-gate’ scandal of April last.

Ferguson has been in fine form for the Blues this season, and with Craig Levein now in charge of the national side, a return for the player is said to be on the cards.

However, the former Rangers star insists he still has a lot to consider, and he wouldn’t even think about returning if it would be detrimental to his career at St Andrews.

“I still have a lot of thinking to do and I am nowhere near making a final decision," Ferguson told the Daily Record. "I am fully committed at present to Birmingham City.

“I want to give them a full season because they took a chance on me when people were knocking me down. It will take me a long time to decide what I am going to do.

"When Craig was appointed I said he was the right guy for the job and he is probably the only person I would consider coming back to play for in the future.

"I have to sit down with Alex McLeish because if it means that I go away on international duty and not play for Birmingham when I come back there is no chance of coming back.”
