Alex McLeish admits he is unsure whether to make Christian Benitez’s loan move to Birmingham City Football Club permanent at the end of the season.

The Ecuadorian international is on loan at St Andrews from Santos Laguna for the rest of the season, but the Blues have secured the option to make the deal permanent for around £7million.

Benitez may have only found the net twice in the Premier League, but McLeish believes the 23-year-old has offered other qualities, making his decision whether or not to sign him a difficult one.

"We have still got to make that decision. He definitely gives us something but he's still a work in progress," said the Scot. "In terms of the English league he has still got things to learn.

“He had a recent injury and his confidence levels went a bit low. He hasn't scored many goals but his assists have been really valuable in getting us into the position we are in at the moment."
