Birmingham City realistic over Zamora chances
Alex McLeish admits it was always unlikely that Birmingham City Football Club were to sign Bobby Zamora during the summer transfer window.
The Blues coach was in the market for a new striker during the summer transfer window, and had identified Zamora as his top target.
However, after an offer of £8million was rejected for the 29-year-old at the end of last season, it was always unlikely that Fulham were prepared to sell the player.
“I never saw the striker there that I really craved - unless I was going to be paying £10million, £12 million,” he told the Birmingham Mail. "I never went back in officially, for Bobby.
"We sounded out Fulham privately but we never made an issue of it because I had read Mark Hughes' comments in the newspaper about him being a focal point for Fulham.
“He has started the season great. I thought there was absolutely no chance, so it didn't go any further. But I can understand why there were bids for him."
