Derby County defender Lewin Nyatanga is in talks with Bristol City over a proposed move to Ashton Gate according to BBC Radio Derby.
21-year-old Wales international Nyatanga is a product of the Derby academy but has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place at Pride Park.
He has been on loan for Sunderland and Barnsley and is surplus to requirements at Pride Park. He is in Bristol talking over a permament move to Ashton Gate for a fee in the region of £500,000.
Meanwhile City manager Gary Johnson has ruled out bringing former Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to Ashton Gate.
The 30-year-old was released at the end of last season but the Robins boss told the club's official website: "The lad is a free agent but he's also played at a high level and has made big money doing that. He'd have to take a three-quarter wage drop to come here.
"The newspaper reports were the first we'd heard about any interest. There's nothing in that one at all, he wasn't on our radar."
