Aston Villa Football Club are keeping tabs on Jay Bothroyd.

The former Arsenal youngster is currently plying his trade in the Championship for Cardiff City, yet he could soon be making the move up to the top-flight.

Reports in the Daily Star claim Martin O’Neill is keen to strike a deal for the 27-year-old, with an offer of £3million being prepared for the New Year.

This would be something of a surprise, though, because as talented as Bothroyd is, he has never been prolific although he does pose a physical threat.

If Villa do take the Bluebirds star, this would increase speculation England international Emile Heskey will leave the Midlands side in January.
