Martin O’Neill insists Fabian Delph will not be joining Cardiff City Football Club this month.

The Championship side are keen to sign the Aston Villa youngster on loan for the rest of the season, as the former Leeds United starlet adapts to life in the Premier League.

However, O’Neill has high hopes and big plans for Delph, and if the Bluebirds make an offer for his signature, the Ulsterman would reject their advances.

"The answer would be no," said O’Neill. "Because he played so many games for Leeds United, he would have liked to play a bit more often this season.

"But it is the kind of season I envisaged for him. It is hard breaking into the side but I thought his contribution in the first half on Saturday against Blackburn was brilliant."
