Chelsea to raid La Liga for new goalkeeper
Sergio Asenjo is a summer target for Chelsea Football Club.
Following their UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Internazionale this week, Carlos Ancelotti will be given a healthy budget in the summer.
The Italian coach will have a number of priorities as he looks to reduce the average age of his squad, and he also wants a solid goalkeeper to challenge Petr Cech.
According to The Sun, the Blues have set their sights on Asenjo, 20, who joined Atletico Madrid just last summer in a €5million transfer from La Liga rivals Valladolid.
However, the Spanish Under-21 international, who has been capped 15 times at that level, is said to be looking for a swift exit after recently losing his place in the starting eleven.
Although Asenjo would, of course, be considered as back-up for Cech, Ancelotti will try and persuade him that given time, he could become number one at Stamford Bridge.
