Penney leaves Darlington
05:00 PM 01 May, 2009
Dave Penney is the new manager at Oldham Athletic.

Dave Penney has left Darlington and joined Oldham after steering Darlo to a mid-table position. They might have made the play-offs but for a ten-point penalty imposed for going into administration.

He told Sky Sports News: "I have had a couple of years at this level before with Doncaster where we finished eighth and 10th so it's a great opportunity to come to a club with great tradition. So I'm happy to be here.

"You can do coaching badges and all the courses but they don't teach you about administration and all the problems you're going to get with that.

"At least I can come here and plan for the future. It was a tough period."

Meanwhile Dave Clark, of the club's administrators Clark, Brackenbury and Co, has hinted that the deadline of May 5 which was set for interested parties to come forward could be moved. Clark told the Journal, "The deadline that I have set, it's an arbitrary deadline. I can extend that if we need to – it could be extended for 18 months if needs be," Mr Clark told The Journal. "Ideally I would like to have it sorted before then but it is impossible to say what is going to happen at the moment. Who knows when someone is going to declare their interest?"
