Stephen Ireland is being lined up by Everton Football Club as a potential replacement for Old Trafford target Jack Rodwell, according to reports.

Manchester United appear hell-bent on signing Rodwell in the summer, and the News of the World claim they have already prepared a package worth £20million.

Although the Toffees insist they are determined to keep hold of the talented teenager, the same publication believes they have lined up Ireland as a potential replacement.

The Irishman has failed to establish himself at Manchester City this season after a superb campaign last time, and Roberto Mancini is sure to add more talent to his squad in the summer.

This could make Ireland, 23, surplus to requirements at Eastlands, and whilst there would be a lengthy queue for his signature, the Toffees would be bolstered by the Rodwell sale cash.
