Burnley striker defends his Falkirk decision
03:59 PM 14 July, 2009
Alex McDonald has defended his decision to join Falkirk Football Club on loan.

Many Burnley fans were surprised when the young striker opted to start next season on loan in Scotland, where he will spend the first six months of the campaign.

However, McDonald, who is yet to start a first team game for the Clarets, believes the experience of regular first team football will stand him in good stead when he returns.

"When I go back I want to push for a spot in the Burnley side," he told the Daily Record. "It is a bonus getting into the Premiership but I have to look after myself.

“This is a good move for my career. I can't thank Falkirk enough for giving me this chance and I want to grab it with both hands and go back with a bit of a reputation.

"The boss wants me to score some goals for six months then go back and push for a spot in the Burnley team. It's always a boost when you are in the manager's plans."
