Smalling didn’t expect Manchester United call
Chris Smalling admits he didn’t expect to become a Manchester United Football Club.
In the most surprising deals of the winter, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side forked out around £10million to take the young defender from Fulham, although he will remain in London this season.
Smalling will head to Old Trafford next term when he could have the daunting task of replacing Nemanja Vidic, who continues to be linked with a move away from Manchester.
“My move to United came out of the Blue,” said the England Under-21 star. “I was just concentrating on doing well for Fulham, but it is a fantastic opportunity for me.
“I think at times I’ll be star-struck, but I’m not nervous. When I started to play for Fulham I got a few nerves, but I have played now and have started to get used to it.”
