Grimsby Town have completed the signing of the veteran former Hibernian and Barnsley goalkeeper Nick Colgan.

Colgan began his career with hometown club Drogheda United in 1991 before moving to sign professional terms with Chelsea where he played just one game in six years, during which he also had loan spells with Crewe, the Mariners, Millwall, Brentford and Reading.

Colgan signed for Bournemouth on a free before joining SPL side Hibernian, where he spent five years making 139 league and cup appearances as well as 17 loan appearances for Stockport County.

He then joined Barnsley in summer 2004 and spent four years with the Tykes, playing 113 league and cup games.

He joined Ipswich in the January transfer window and after being released by the Tractor Boys he was snapped up by Sunderland.
