Stoke City plot £1million goalkeeper swoop
02:00 PM 18 August, 2009
Stoke City Football Club are plotting a £1million bid for Alex Smithies.

The 19-year-old is currently contracted to his hometown club Huddersfield Town where, despite his youthful age, he is considered number one goalkeeper by Lee Clark.

Smithies is being tipped to have a huge future in the game, and earlier this summer Everton and Tottenham Hotspur were credited with an interest in his signature.

However, reports at the weekend suggest Tony Pulis is plotting a £1million bid to take the England Under-19 international to the Britannia Stadium before the end of the month.

Sorry, I don't think one million is enough, double that and you might have a shout. Doubt young Alex would want to go and sit on the bench at Stoke (he's not ready for epl yet) especially when we could well be in the same league next season. Reported to be on 8 grand a week at Town, how much do you think Stoke would be willing to pay him. Nah, no brainer unless you talk silly money.
