Newcastle United in pole position to take Beckford
09:30 PM 01 January, 2010
Newcastle United Football Club are reportedly closing on Jermaine Beckford.

The 26-year-old is one of the most sought after strikers outside of the Premier League, having proven his ability to find the back of the net in League One with Leeds United.

Premier League clubs including Aston Villa and Fulham have been linked with the former Wealdstone man, but the Daily Star claim the Magpies are in pole position.

The tabloid claim Beckford is close to agreeing a switch to the Championship leaders, but he is eager to appear for the Whites against Manchester United in the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Leeds, though, continue to insist they their star player will remain at Elland Road for the rest of the season to assist their promotion bid, despite him being out of contract in the summer.

Swap deal for Smudge please????? (grovels, pleads, begs, simpers, whimpers etc) Alright sorry, I'll crawl back under the rock I came from before I get a verbal rocket from fellow Whites!!! Beckford is really going off the boil on a personal level and needs to get his head screwed on. Why would Newcastle want a player like that? Er hang on, if they can still have Barton on their books, Beckford's paddying and demanding ways are 'nowt' in comparison with Jailbird Joey's issues!!
