Sunderland set to make Beckford offer
11:30 AM 11 January, 2010
Sunderland Football Club are expected to enter the race to sign Jermaine Beckford.

The Leeds United striker, who dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup last weekend, is one of the most sought-after players in the winter window.

Out of contract at the end of the season, the 26-year-old has slapped in a transfer request to leave Elland Road, which is set to spark a bidding war.

Newcastle United have already failed with an offer of £1.25million for Beckford, and the Sunday Times claim the Black Cats are now set to enter the race.

Steve Bruce is keen to add another striker to his squad at the Stadium of Light, but he could yet face competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signature of the Whites star.
