Benitez again explains Owen snub
10:30 AM 07 March, 2010
Rafael Benitez has again explained why he didn’t sign Michael Owen in the summer.

The former Liverpool idol was available on a free transfer following his release from Newcastle United, and he was keen to make a return to the Anfield club.

However, Benitez snubbed the chance to sign Owen, who then upset his former followers by signing for archrivals and champions Manchester United.

"We decided that we had Fernando Torres,” said the Spaniard. “After that you look for players who could replace him and we have Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt and David N’Gog.”

Owen, meanwhile, has endured an average season at Old Trafford, and a hamstring injury suffered in the Carling Cup final means he will not feature again until next term.

I completely agree with you george..Benitez missed a chance of signing a wonderful player...i dont know why people often criticize owen..cum on guys owen is also a human being and he has the right to take some decisions on his own so stop callin him a betrayer of liverpool or judas.even i'm a fan of liverpool..but we have to understand that he's a player and he's got the right to leave the club for his own career building..even we people will leave our present company incase if we get a highly paid job or a better opportunity ryt..same applies with owen..he left liverpool as he thought that he can shine better in other club and he also needs a change right, whats wrong in that??...stop criticizing him it is very stupid to insult the golden boy and hero of england football team..love you owen..god bless you!!
