Riera’s Liverpool ambition in tatters
09:00 AM 19 March, 2010
Albert Riera’s desire to stay at Liverpool Football Club looks doomed.

The Spanish winger, who has failed to set England alight since his move from Espanyol in 2008, is struggling to hold down a regular place in Rafael Benitez’s side.

His chances of doing so were reduced to zero earlier this week when he slammed his coach in the media, something which has seen him banished from the first team plans.

Ironically, Riera had also said that he hopes to spend the rest of his career at Anfield, but this now seems about as likely as Gary Neville being welcomed on the red half of Merseyside.

"I'd like to stay here for the rest of my career but we players live to play,” said the 27-year-old. "My objective is to go to the World Cup and for that I have to play.”
