Stephen Ireland has been assured of his future at Manchester City Football Club.

The former Republic of Ireland international was a key player for the Blues last season, but he has started just fifteen Premier League games this term.

This has led to speculation he could on his way out, with Everton and Liverpool said to be interested, but Roberto Mancini intends to keep hold of the 23-year-old.

“I have a lot of respect for Stephen Ireland because he is a good player," said the Italian. “He is ready to play. I have a number of options in midfield and Stephen is an important player for us."
