Manchester United Football Club are reportedly determined to sign Jack Rodwell.

The Reds have recently beaten off competition from Arsenal to sign Fulham’s Chris Smalling, who they see as a replacement for Nemanja Vidic who is expected to quit in the summer.

And the News of the World claim Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to partner Smalling, 20, with 19-year-old Rodwell in the heart of a back four which would serve the Old Trafford club for years.

It is claimed the Premier League champions are prepared to pay £12million for the Goodison Park ace, but David Moyes is believed to want twice as much for the youngster.
