McCarthy goes big to beat Johnson rivals
Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club are prepared to pay big for Adam Johnson.
The former England Under-21 international is one of the most wanted players in the country outside of the Premier League, and he will soon be out of contract at Middlesbrough.
Everton, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur have all expressed an interest in the 22-year-old, but the Mail on Sunday claim Mick McCarthy is looking to outbid all comers.
It is being suggested that the Wolves manager is prepared to pay as much as £6.5million to sign Johnson, which would equal the reported amount they paid for Kevin Doyle in the summer.
However, unless an established to-flight club come in for his signature this month, the player may well opt to remain at the Riverside Stadium and weigh up his options in the summer.
