Chelsea look to strike Johnson deal
01:30 PM 25 January, 2010
Chelsea Football Club hope to sign Adam Johnson before the transfer deadline.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at Middlesbrough in the summer, when the Riverside Stadium club would be able to demand just a compensation fee for his signature.

Boro are reluctant to cash in on the winger now as they aim to earn an instant return to the Premier League, and reports suggest Carlo Ancelotti is set to offer them a compromise deal.

It is believed the Stamford Bridge side are willing to pay as much as £4million for Johnson, and allow him to see the rest of the season out on Teesside before taking him in the summer.
