Portsmouth defender set for Magpies
08:49 PM 21 January, 2010
Newcastle United Football Club have had an offer for Mike Williamson accepted.

The 26-year-old defender has struggled to nail down a place in the Portsmouth side since moving from Watford during the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports now claim Williamson is set for a return to the Championship with leaders Newcastle, who already boast the meanest back four in the division.

Chris Hughton is determined to lead the Magpies back into the Premier League at the first attempt, and he looks to be taking advantage of Pompey’s perilous financial situation.

Had good reviews when at watford but he rejected newcastle in summer do we need a player that didnt want to play for club 6months ago. Curtis davies is available on loan and would be a better choice if CH thnks we need more in that position. newcastle have to spend money and i think signing a creative midfield and a pacy striker is needed more than anything! J.Vaughan from everton would be a good start and then wilshere on loan or sevilla's Tom De Mul
