Newcastle United Football Club hope to take Curtis Davies on loan this month.

The 24-year-old defender appeared for Aston Villa in their FA Cup win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, his first game since recovering from shoulder surgery.

Davies is a target for Scottish giants Celtic, but Martin O’Neill has already stated that he intends to keep the former West Bromwich Albion man in his squad.

However, it is being reported that Chris Hughton hopes to persuade the Villa boss to let the centre-half spend the rest of the season at St James Park.

The Magpies already have the best defence in the Championship, but Davies would add even more quality to their side whilst giving him regular first team action.
