Southampton Football Club are interested in Zak Whitbread.

Nigel Adkins has led the St Mary’s side out of the Championship, and he is already making plans to bolster his squad ahead of their Premier League return.

It remains to be seen how much cash will be available for him to spend in the summer, but one player who wouldn’t cost a fee is Whitbread.

The 28-year-old defender is out of contract at Norwich City at the end of the current season, and it is believed the Saints will offer him a top-flight lifeline.
