Nottingham Forest Football Club hope to secure the permanent signing of Nicky Shorey.

The former Reading fullback has failed to nail down a regular place in the Aston Villa side, a situation made worse by the £7million arrival of Stephen Warnock in the summer.

Shorey is currently on loan at the City Ground, and having made six starts for the Championship side, a permanent transfer in the winter is being mooted.

Reports in The Mirror claim Bill Davies is hopeful of securing a £3million deal for the 28-year-old, capped twice by England, when the window reopens.
