Newcastle United could renew Campbell interest
01:00 PM 25 September, 2009
Newcastle United Football Club could well renew their interest in Sol Campbell in January.

The former England international is available on a free transfer in the New Year, after cutting short his five-year contract at League Two club Notts County.

Former St James Park idol Cole has revealed that before the 35-year-old moved to County, he was wanted by both Newcastle and Premier League side Aston Villa.

“Sol will be fine. I know that he spoke to Aston Villa and Newcastle United before signing for Notts County,” the ex-striker said in The Independent.

"I know he could have earned more money elsewhere. I also believe he's got a good two years at least at a high level left in him. He won't struggle for employment playing football."

Villa have since signed James Collins and Richard Dunne to bolster their back four, but could the Magpies swoop for Campbell to boost their promotion hopes?
