Phil Brown has distanced himself from making a January bid for Sol Campbell.

The Hull City boss wanted to sign the former England international in the summer, but the player decided to link up with Sven Goran Eriksson at Notts County.

The 35-year-old made just one appearance for the League Two side before he quit the club, but the Tigers won’t be making a fresh move for him in the New Year.

"I spoke to Sol in the summer. We had a good long conversation about his ambition and his future and where he wants to be,” said Brown.

“But Sven did a better job than me. As far as I am concerned we are what we are, we have what we've got and we have to work with it."
