Plymouth embark on five-year Premier League plan
06:00 PM 05 July, 2009
Argyle have new owners with the Japanese-led consortium headed up by Yasuaki Kagami securing a majority stake in the club.

Sir Roy Gardner, formerly chairman of Manchester United, becomes chairman at Home Park and has been outlining his plans.

"Anyone who knows me, will know of my passion for football and I have been looking to get back into the game for a while now," he said.

"This is my opportunity. We have got some exciting ideas and I am delighted to have this opportunity."

With Paul Sturrock safe in his role and the Pilgrims back in pre-season training, attention will now turn to potential new signings.

"It's been very difficult to bring in players, because we didn't know what the story with the takeover was," Sturrock told the Plymouth Herald this week.

"But I'm going to have a right chinwag with the new chairman and see what the story is about new players coming in.

"The time frame is vitally important because it was something that hindered us last year."
