Martin Ling, an applicant for the vacant hot-seat at Port Vale is keen on the job.

Ling was at the O's since 2003 and only left by mutual consent in January of this year.

"People who know the game know I did a good job at the Orient," said Ling, "When I took over they were at a low ebb and second from bottom of League Two. But we stayed up and we then got them promoted to League One.

"I see Port Vale as being in a similar situation now. From what I know about Vale, the club is below the level it should be. I see it as a League One or Championship club."
