Ex-Carlisle boss in line for Valiants hot-seat
John Ward is thought to be close to landing the managerial vacancy at Port Vale.
58-year old Ward has been out of work since leaving Carlisle by mutual consent in November.
Ward told BBC Radio Stoke: "I believe that I can still do a good job at any club who wishes to employ me."
Wycombe boss Peter Taylor backed any appointment of Ward saying, "I think John is a first-class man. If you look at his managerial career, he hasn't managed in the Premier League, but he has managed in all the other divisions and he has had success."
"This is a manager who knows the divisions, knows how to manage and he has all the coaching credentials. I don't know many people who have more knowledge of League One and Two than him.
"He could also run off the names of players in the Premier League reserve teams because he goes out to watch them on a regular basis.
"I don't think Port Vale could get a better man in."
