Adam Yates, released by Morecambe after 91 appearances is closing on a deal with managerless Port Vale according to chairman Bill Bratt.

"We are interested in Adam and have held talks with him," said Bratt.

"Hopefully we can come to a deal. He is a player we have been keeping tabs on for the last two seasons.

"We will listen to what the new manager has to say about him and they are aware of the player."

Vale expect to appoint a new manager next week.
