Port Vale coach Ian Brightwellis leaving Vale Park and former Cheltenham boss Keith Downing will become manager Dean Glover's assistant.

Downing has sorted out contractual problems with Cheltenham and Brightwell told BBC Radio Stoke, "I was always aware of what could happen."

Downing told Thisisgloucestershire.co.uk, "It's a temporary move, but it works out well for both Port Vale and myself," Downing said.

"I am there on a month to month basis and it will be reviewed at the end of the season.

"This will help me get my hand back in after five months out and I am looking forward to helping Dean Glover."
