Iain Dowie’s return to the Premier League ended with a heartbreaking defeat for Hull City.

The former Crystal Palace and Charlton Athletic boss replaced Phil Brown as Tigers boss in midweek, and a Caleb Folan brace gave them a 2-1 lead over Portsmouth with minutes remaining.

However, Pompey scored two dramatic late goals to inflict a bruising defeat on the KC Stadium side, who remain second bottom in the top-flight table, ahead of their opponents.

"It's a very tight situation," Dowie told Sky Sports after the game. "You see results today go one way and the other - who would have thought that game would go that way with two minutes to go."
