Peter Ridsdale believes Preston North End are in desperate need of a new striker.
Although the Deepdale club have already signed David Amoo and Lee Trundle this summer, they have lost Neil Mellor whilst Ian Hulme is out of favour.
Chairman Ridsdale is eager to see the Lancashire side battle for promotion, but he accepts he needs to find a top-class striker before the start of the season.
"We ultimately know if we are going to get promoted this year we need to add to what we've got a goalscorer,” he told BBC Radio Lancashire.
"We have been trying for goalscorers and we wanted them at the right price. That is our intention but it was to be the right person at the right price."
