Liam Trotter is poised to turn down a contract offer at Portman Road in order to return to the Iron, where he starred on loan season.

Scunthorpe will have to pay compensation for the 20-year-old.

New Ipswich manager Roy Keane had sanctioned the new contract offer to Trotter earlier in the summer, telling his club's website: "I've told him that I'd like to keep him at the club."
