Winger Chris Humphrey is a summer target for Gareth Southgate, who has again insisted he will not leave the Riverside even if Boro are relegated.

Ahead of the crunch clash with Newcastle on Monday night, Southgate told the Sunday Sun: “For whatever reason, he (Steve Gibson) seems to feel happy with the job I’m doing behind the scenes. He takes into account the finances and everything.

“If he didn’t think that, I’m sure he would have made a change a long time ago.

"So if I have the support of the chairman that’s all I need.”

Highly-rated winger Humphrey, linked with Aston Villa in January, is out of contract this summer although Shrewsbury would be due compensation for his services.
