Le Tissier to return as Saints are saved?
08:08 PM 08 July, 2009
Southampton Football Club have new owners, after Swiss businessman Markus Liebherr completed his takeover on the South Coast.

"I believe we have a superb opportunity to rebuild this great club. This will require resources, planning, hard work and patience," the 61-year-old told BBC Solent.

"We should not expect instant success, but our fans, employees and stakeholders can expect 100% commitment from me and my team."

Former Saints star Matt Le Tissier saw the Pinnacle consortium with which he was involved, pull out of the race recently, but a St Mary's return may yet still be on the cards.

Chief operating officer Oldknow told Sky Sports News: "Matt's fantastic. He's been brilliant and nothing but first-class in terms of his engagement with me.

"In due course we will be meeting with him to listen to his views. We don't have anything in mind for Matt. Let's see what happens."

Le Tissier's former team-mate Francis Benali meanwhile, like many a Southampton fan, breathed a huge sigh of relief at the takeover news.

"I have to say I'm pleased for the football club that something has been completed," he said.

"It has been going on for some time and it's good that the club can move forward."
