After a successful loan spell, Preston midfielder Richard Chaplow has joined Southampton on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee.
He told BBC Radio Solent: "I'm delighted to get it done. This is a great club with a great manager."
He added: "With Darren Ferguson getting sacked by Preston we needed to try and push things through.
"Coming down here on loan was always with a view to signing permanently if it worked out for all parties. That's how it's gone and I'm delighted to be here.
"I knew what I was coming into having been here on loan before. I knew the gaffer had done a great job at Scunthorpe and I've just been enjoying being back out on the pitch.
"I didn't get on too well with Darren Ferguson at Preston, but he's gone now. People like Alan Irvine and the manager here are the sort of managers I want to be around," he added.
"I think there's lots more to come from me," he said. "I'm only 25, I shouldn't even really be at my peak yet. I've had some big clubs sniffing around me before, and I'm at one now too."
