Stevenage have been told they must up their offer for Lucas Akins.
Borough are keen to take the 23-year-old from League One rivals Tranmere Rovers, but have already seen one offer for the midfielder rejected.
And although Akins very much remains a target, Prenton Park boss Ronnie Moore is determined to keep the player for the forthcoming campaign.
"We have no intentions of letting him go, we think he's progressing in the right manner and we want him here," Moore said. “We have told them he's not going anywhere.
“Their valuation of him doesn't match ours. I'd have to go out and find a replacement and there isn't anybody like-for-like out there."
