Manchester United Football Club hope to sign Josh Thompson this summer.

The highly-rated defender is currently employed by Stockport County, but these are troubled times for the Hatters who were placed into administration last month.

Thompson has been targeted by a number of clubs, but it appears as though United are in pole position after monitoring him in training just last week.

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly decided to take a chance on the 18-year-old, and he will be hoping to tie up a transfer as soon as the window reopens.
